By Waheed Adekunle

As part of efforts to complement the infrastructural developments within their immediate community, the 300 Level Mass Communication Students of Fountain University, Osogbo donated sets of Solar Street Light to the University community.

The gesture, which is part of the Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR, was conceptualised by the donours to impact positively in the lives of the inhabitants of their immediate environment.

It was reported that the students embarked on the CSR intervention having identified some of the basic infrastructural needs of the institution and the need to urgently address one of them based on the available resources at their disposal.

As part of charitable activities and the spirit of  'giving back to the community,' culminated in the action taken by the concerned students to mitigate the situation.

The project preference, according to the students, was informed at lightening up the school premises, most importantly some of the dark spots on campus.

It was gathered from members of the Project Implementation Committee that several options were weighed before arriving at the project.

It was further revealed that prior to the installation of the solar lights which were erected in five major strategic locations, there were noticeable dark spots all over the campus at night thus hindering the security efforts within the campus.

The newly procured Solar Street Lights were installed at the popular Love Garden; front of  Mass Communication Studio; front of Namadi Zambo Multipurpose Hall; COBMES area as well as Fountain Junction respectively.

However, the installation of one of the Solar Lights at the Campus Main Junction has been applauded by the beneficiaries who were hitherto used to be in the dark at night.

The campus main junction practically pays a host to some of the community residents particularly commercial motorcyclists and tri-cyclists who used part of it as a stand, where people do take bike.

Meanwhile, with the newly installed solar lights, the entire spot had been totally illuminated for the use of the people.

Some of the students residing in the school hostels who have been enjoying the solar lights since their installation,  commended the donors for deeming it fit to illuminate the school environment saying "the gesture is worthy of emulation."

The information has it that the mini project will be formally inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Olayinka Ramota Karim, anytime soon.
