Sports: Fountain Varsity team defeats counterpart from Summit 4-0

In a friendly inter-school football match organised to commemorate her 12th convocation ceremony, the Fountain University, Osogbo (FUO) defeated Summit University, Offa in a 4 – 0.


The match which was held at the FUO’s football pitch had in attendance explosive spectators who came to cheer up their respective teams.


Just a few minutes into the match, the FUO Football team dominated the game when Qudus Ado opened the scoreboard by projecting a very beautiful header into the back of the net to give Fountain University the lead.


The striker who posed a great threat to the opposition team during the course of the game took it to the next level after heading in a goal from a beautiful corner taken by Abiodun Omotosho, a student of the Department of Computer Science.


The lead was doubled 10 minutes later when Abiodun Omotosho’s strike was too hot for the goalkeeper to get a grip on it, he was assisted with a swift pass by Adesiyan Adewale, a student of the Department of Political Science. Abiodun got his brace 7 minutes later with a confident one-on-one finish just before the end of the first half.


Meanwhile, in the second half of the game, Summit University showed a controlling display as they tried to get an equalizer to level the game.


They were very threatening with a brilliant display and control of the midfield. Although all efforts proved fruitless as they failed to score any goal. Ojurongbe Toheeb, a student of the department of Computer Science, canceled any hope of Summit University making a comeback as he scored the fourth goal from the Penalty spot just minutes after being introduced into the game.


The Vice Chancellor of Fountain University was present at the Football field alongside the registrar of the University, Mr. Sheriff Adenekan and the Bursar of the University, Alhaja Silifat Balogun as the watched the players of the university winning the game and keeping a clean sheet on home ground.


While speaking after the match, the Vice Chancellor thanked Summit University for honouring their invitation.
